I believe visual expression comes from deep in the subconscious mind. When art is allowed to emerge from the subconscious, it feels rich and complex, magical, surreal and dreamlike. I’m interested in blurring the lines between the material and spiritual, seen and unseen, tangible and intangible, real and surreal. My painting practice is a way to attune with the energetics between people and places and things.
Bryn McConnell is a painter working with the subconscious to translate the energetic qualities of humans, places, and things. Informed by meditation practice, tarot, astrology, quantum physics, neurological reprogramming and Jungian shadow work, her work blurs the lines between the material and spiritual, seen and unseen, tangible and intangible, real and surreal. It materializes in sketchbooks, on canvases, and as large-scale murals.
After earning degrees at Pratt Art Institute and School of Visual Arts in New York City, Bryn spent 7 formative years in Europe. There, she was featured in solo shows at Begramoff Gallery, BB Space, Garden Gallery, Arbre Mandarine Gallery, and the US Embassy in Brussels and at Klaster Osek Gallery and Vinicni Altan Gallery in Prague. She has also shown extensively in New York, returning to the city after many years abroad.
Since 2022, Bryn has been living and working nomadically across Europe, the UK, and the US. Travel inspires her painting as it is an opportunity to examine her psyche as it responds to new and different places.
